About Thom Browne
Thom Browne has earned worldwide recognition for reimagining and modernizing today’s uniform. By rethinking traditional proportions and silhouettes, his designs express a distinctly American point of view—rooted in exceptional craftsmanship and precise tailoring.
It all started in 2001, when Browne launched his brand with just five suits in a small by-appointment shop in New York’s West Village. Over the years, the company has grown to include full ready-to-wear collections, accessories, and fragrances for men (since 2003), women (since 2011), and children (since 2021). Browne is also celebrated for his highly conceptual runway presentations, which have drawn global attention for their thought-provoking themes and dramatic settings.
In January 2023, Thom Browne became Chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). His work has been honored with numerous awards, including the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year (2006, 2013, 2016), GQ Designer of the Year (2008), the FIT Couture Council Award (2017), and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award (2012). His designs are held in the permanent collections of major museums worldwide, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and others. Browne also serves as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Notre Dame, where he teaches a course titled “Strong Suits: The Art, Business, and Philosophy of Thom Browne.”
Today, the brand is available in leading luxury department stores and specialty boutiques across 40 countries, as well as through 120 direct-to-consumer stores in key cities including New York, London, Milan, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, and Seoul. Since 2018, Thom Browne has been part of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group, which holds a 92% ownership stake.
